Successful launch of direct linkage between Central Moneymarkets Unit of Hong Kong and SIX of Switzerland

29 Jul 2026
The direct linkage between the Central Moneymarkets Unit (CMU) operated by CMU OmniClear Limited (CMU OmniClear), and Switzerland’s national central securities depository (CSD) operator, SIX, was successfully activated today (29 July). This also marks the launch of CMU OmniClear’s equity post-trade services for the first time.

As a major financial market infrastructure in Hong Kong, CMU has long served as a vital bridge connecting the Chinese Mainland with international markets. With the introduction of this new linkage, CMU Members can now invest and hold securities in the Swiss and Spanish markets through CMU, enabling more direct and efficient access to these markets.

Following the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signed between CMU OmniClear and SIX in October 2024 (see press release) to establish a framework for closer collaboration in unlocking cross-border investment opportunities, the activation of this linkage represents a major milestone for CMU OmniClear since its establishment in 2024. The collaboration can facilitate Chinese outbound investment into additional markets beyond Hong Kong and Asia, catering to Chinese Mainland investors’ growing demands for global asset allocation.

Mr Stanley Chan, Group Chief Executive Officer of CMU OmniClear Holdings Limited and Chief Executive Officer of CMU OmniClear said, “We are pleased to have strengthened our cross-border connectivity with the European markets and for the first time, we are extending our asset servicing platform beyond fixed income to support equities. It is a new chapter in our journey to become a one‑stop multi‑asset class post‑trade securities infrastructure, enabling more comprehensive product and client coverage. Through this new linkage, we can facilitate CMU Members to invest in Switzerland and Spain through a familiar market access channel in the Asian time zone. Going forward, we will continue to collaborate with SIX to explore extending the linkage to other markets, expanding our equity post-trade asset servicing capabilities.”

Mr Francisco Bejar, Head of Custody at SIX, said, “Today's implementation marks an important milestone in advancing cross-border market access between Asia and Europe. By combining CMU OmniClear's role as a gateway for institutional demand with the international custody and post-trade infrastructure of SIX, we are helping to create a trusted and scalable model for connecting investors to European markets. We look forward to supporting greater connectivity and facilitating cross-border investment opportunities for market participants.”
